Measure for Delivery
Before you make your purchase, it’s important that you measure your space to ensure you can fit your new sofa in your home!
Follow these steps to ensure you won’t have to return your product and start your search all over again.
What you’ll need
What you’ll need
- Tape measure
- Painter’s tape or chalk
- Notepad/phone
- A friend for awkward stair maths (optional… but recommended)

Step 1
Grab the size from the product page
Every Secret Sofa product page lists two sets of measurements:
- Product dimensions: Width (W) × Depth (D) × Height (H)
- Box/packaging dimensions: Width (W) × Depth (D) × Height (H)
Pro tip: If the sofa arrives in multiple boxes/sections, measure each box against your path.

Step 2
Map the delivery path
Trace the route from:
street/garage → building entrance → hallways → elevators/stairs → final room
Measure the narrowest point of each.
Record for each segment:
- Clear width (door open at 90°)
- Clear height (watch low ceilings, bulkheads, pendant lights)
- Diagonal clearance (corner turns & stair landings)
- Obstacles (banisters, handrails, tight corners, intercoms, door closers)

Step 3
Doorways, the most common pinch point
- Obtain the doors clear width by opening the door to 90°and measuring the frame to frame width.
- Obtain clear height by measuring floor to top of frame.
- If turning immediately after the door, confirm there’s pivot space in the adjoining hall.
Fit Test: If Box Width is less than the door clear and height width, it will fit.

Step 4
Hallways & corners
- Measure hallway clear width and ceiling height width.
- For 90° turns, ensure the longest point of the box length can pivot within the available floor space.
- A landing that measures at the same depth as the box length will ensure it can pivot in the space.

Step 5
Stairs & landings
- Measure stair clear width between handrail and wall.
- Check head height under any bulkhead.
- Measure landing depth at turns, this should be greater than the longest box length for an easy pivot.

Step 6
Lifts/elevators (if applicable)
Measure doorway clear and height width as well as the lift internal depth while the lift doors are shut. Also, confirm the diagonal measurements (corner‑to‑corner) of the lift internals exceeds the box diagonal measurement.
Sectionals & modulars
- Check each module’s box measurements.
- Some configurations split into chaise/arm/back or corner pieces, which makes tight routes much easier.
Sketch it out (quick visual plan)
- Sketch out the sofa footprint on the floor using sticky tape to get a feel of the scale.
- Note the tightest spot on your path and compare it to the largest box.
- If you’re close, allow 2–3 cm wiggle room for packaging and human maneuvering.
Red flags (call us first)
- Door clear width less than 75 cm
- Stair turns with short landings
- Lift internals with low ceiling and shallow depth
- Heritage trims or fixed screens that can’t be removed
Delivery day prep
- Clear the path (rugs, art, light fittings, shoe racks)
- Protect corners with towels
- Reserve lifts if your building requires it
- Pets secured; parking sorted

Handy checklist
- I have the sofa and box measurements
- I measured every doorway on the route (clear width/height)
- I measured hallways, corners and stair landings
- I checked lift internal dimensions (if relevant)
- I calculated Diagonal Depth (for sofas)
- I’ve allowed 2 - 3 cm wiggle room
